Information Regarding Leon Rose Ballfield Closure

Backstop

The Board of Directors elected to close Leon Rose Ballfield two years ago due to safety/liability concerns, the lack of community interest, and until a long term plan could be developed through the District’s Park Committee. Representatives from Tioga High School each year have requested temporary use of the field, with the agreement they would upkeep the field and be fully responsible for events held there during the duration of their use.

The District’s Park Committee has been discussing the future of the ballfield at their regularly scheduled meetings since April of 2016. These meetings have been published and community participation has been active. Plans to begin getting the field back into a usable condition have been put in place, and the District has scheduled to have the local conservation crew begin the ballfield cleanup process which includes tearing down the old concession stand which has been condemned by the County and rehabbing the field.  Unfortunately due to the heavy rain, the District must use the ballfield as an additional spray field for the disposal of reclaim water and the planned rehabilitation work for the field has been postponed for the time being until the wet weather conditions subside.

The Park Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 9am, in which an agenda is distributed via email, posted at the District’s Office, as well as the web page.  Anyone interested, is welcome to these meetings to offer any insight on the future of GCSD Parks.
